Medicare:

Private Medicare insurance plans will vary in monthly premiums, provider networks, out of pocket costs, maximums, and extra value benefits, such as Vision, Hearing, Dental and Alternative Care.

Medicare is a federally funded health benefits program for:

  • People age 65 or older
  • People under age 65 with certain disabilities
  • People of all ages with end-stage renal disease

Types of insurance plans

  • Medicare Supplement/Medigap/Companion Plans
  • Medicare Advantage Plans (PPO, HMO, POS, PFFS)
  • Prescription Drug Plans

Medicare provides coverage for the following types of care:

  • Part A, which includes hospital and costs no monthly premium;
  • Part B, which includes physician & medical care, and generally costs a monthly premium.
    A Medicare beneficiary enrolled in Part A & Part B may purchase coverage from an insurance company to fill gaps not covered by Original Medicare.

You need to purchase or enroll for the following plans:

  • Part C, which is Medicare Advantage plans;
  • Part D, is Prescription Drug Plan coverage.

Medicaid:

Medicaid is a program available only to certain low-income individuals and families who fit into an eligibility group that is recognized by federal and state law. Medicaid provides financial assistance for health care. Each state sets its own guidelines regarding eligibility and services.
